“?Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs is still set to be offered a coaching job by expected new boss Jose Mourinho, but it reportedly won’t be the same assistant manager role he has filled alongside Louis van Gaal for the last two years.
According to Sky Sports, Mourinho will make long-term friend and colleague Rui Faria (pictured, below) his number two when the anticipated deal with the Old Trafford club is finalised. Mourinho is also tipped to take loyal first-team coach Silvino Louro with him.
That means if Giggs does opt to stay at United, which it is widely rumoured he won’t, he will have to make do with another position that effectively boils down to a demotion.
Mourinho is said to value the experience of the retired winger. As such, it is of little surprise that he should wants Giggs to stay on in some capacity to tap into that.
But, after three years of coaching and assistant roles, Giggs is thought to want to spread his own wings for the first time. That opportunity won’t be forthcoming the longer he sticks around in the background at Old Trafford.
There have been rumours and suggestions that the Under-21 team could be where Giggs ends up should he remain at the club. Current boss Warren Joyce is reportedly in the frame to take over at Blackburn, potentially leaving a vacancy that would offer the best of both worlds as Giggs looks to cut his managerial teeth.
It was a role that both Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique filled at Barcelona B before later taking the top job, and one that should be a serious consideration if it is to indeed be on offer.
Other reports also have Mourinho keen to add Brian Kidd, 1968 European Cup winner and former assistant to Alex Ferguson, and Gary Neville to the backroom staff in a move that will surely please fans still concerned about his imminent accession.
