Premier League Clubs Set to Discuss Possibility of Extra Substitutes for Next Season

Premier League clubs are reportedly locked in discussion over the possibility of allowing extra substitutes to be allowed on the bench on match days, according to Sky Sports.

The current stipulations state that only seven substitutes are allowed on the bench on match days but talks have begun over the possibility of increasing that to nine in time for the start of the 2016/17 season.

It is understood clubs will still only be allowed to use the allocated three substitutes despite the increased number- something that reports are suggesting has been heavily advocated by Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea.

If the rule does come in, then it would be eight years after the number of substitutes was increased from five to seven in 2008.

These proposals will be discussed in full at the Premier League’s AGM in June when the promoted clubs (Burnley, Middlesborough, and either Sheffield Wednesday or Hull) will be present in discussing the matter.

Meanwhile, the Premier League confirmed Tottenham striker Harry Kane has collected the Barclays Golden Boot award after netting 25 goals this season and beating off competition from the likes of Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero and Leicester City hotshot Jamie Vardy.

It is the second season in a row the 22-year-old has scored over 20 league goals despite only becoming a Premier League regular last season.
