Giwa recorded their fourth league win and earned a push into the top half of the table with a momentous 2-0 home win over their hoodoo team; Kano Pillars, at the Rwang Pam Stadium on Wednesday.
Coach of the side, Gbenga Ogunbote told footballlive.ng the victory over the four-time league winners was no mean feat and the home crowd acknowledge a 2-year jinx had been broken.
Giwa FC gained promotion to the 2014/15 NPFL season and has in all four meetings against Pillars managed to wrestle only 2 points.
David Sunday’s opener in the 22nd minute and a Zikiye Jonathan own goal in the second half settled the tie on a waterlogged pitch.
Speaking after the match, Pillars coach, Mohammed Baba Ganaru, lamented that the state of the pitch did not allow his team play their flowing game. “No matter how long a record stands it would be broken. The nature of the pitch did not allow us to play our passing game. This is a temporary setback to our title ambition, we will go back and work harder,” he told LMC.
