THE financial demands of former Marseille striker Andre Ayew (above) illustrate the increasingly innovative methods players will use to get what they want out of a club which, as ever, is cash.
In addition to £65,000 a week, plus £20,000 for each start in the Barclays Premier League, the Ghana forward wanted a landmark goal bonus and an international goal bonus’, along with a loyalty bonus’ if he remained with the same club for just two seasons.
Ayew, who has since joined Swansea, also wanted a £2m signing-on fee, to be paid in four instalments spread over his first 19 months, when he was being hawked around the Premier League.
His performance in the opening match of the English Premier League shows that he deserves more than many players who are on bumper salaries in the world’s most popular league.
