2023 AFCON: “This May be my last major Outing with Super Eagles” – Ahmed Musa

All things been equal the Super Eagles captain and Turkish side Sivasspor forward Ahmed Musa could be making his last major outing with the forthcoming 2023 African Cup of Nations.

The former CSKA winger reportedly revealed this to his close friend Abumere Ededuan a FIFA Licensed agent, that he may drop his captain armband after the African football fiesta slated to hold in Ivory Coast.

“You never can tell because in football anything can happen, but that notwithstanding, Musa is hoping to end his time with the national team on a high in Ivory Coast. It’s time for him to give the younger players opportunity to show what they can equally do for our fatherland.

He has served the nation with highest degree of devotion and dedication and I think his mind is made up… He has given a strong indication that Ivory Coast is likely to be his last port of call with the national team.’’

Musa, 30, at the tender age of 17 made his debut for the Nigeria senior team in a qualification match for the 2012 African Cup of Nations against Madagascar, where he came on as a substitute for Mikel John Obi in a 2–0 win in 2010.

He scored his first goal for the Super Eagles in a March 2011 in a friendly against Kenya. With 109 appearances for the Super Eagles,Musa is Nigeria’s most capped player.

Following the retirement of Vincent Enyeama from international football, former Nigeria coach, Sunday Oliseh named Musa as the captain of the team. This decision was however reversed in 2016 as Mikel John Obi was named captain of the Nigerian squad and Musa was moved to Vice Captain
