“?Aleksandar Mitrovic has stated that he is happy at Newcastle and that he would only consider a move if an official approach was made.

As reported by “?ChronicleLive, the word coming out of Portuguese publication Record is that Sporting Lisbon are interested in luring the Serbian striker away from St James Park this summer, with claims that Mitrovic himself has spoken with the club.

“I have four more years of [my] contract with Newcastle and I haven’t received any official approach so far,”? said Mitrovic. “I’m happy in England, of course, but it’s always good to see my name linked to a club like Sporting – it’s a big club.

“If something comes up they will always have to talk with Newcastle first, and only then with me and with my representative.”?

Despite these rumours, Record is a publication that also stated Andros Townsend was on his way to Lisbon to complete a move last week which turned out to be a fabrication.

Mitrovic has had a mixed season at Newcastle, with his quality on the pitch being matched by his temper that his critics so often point too. Despite this, with a season in the Championship on the horizon, Rafa Benitez and company will look to hold onto the striker ahead of what is sure to be a long and arduous campaign.
